About the Role
OpenAI’s Robotics team builds hardware and software for general-purpose robotics in dynamic, real-world settings.
The Electrical Engineer will build and own the electrical backbone of robotic actuator dynamometers and test infrastructure.
The role spans hands-on lab execution and system architecture for repeatable, safe, and scalable actuator testing.
In This Role
- Own dynamometer and actuator test-cell electrical architecture, including distribution, protection, drives, braking, and auxiliary power.
- Integrate motor drives, load machines, sensors, instrumentation, DAQ, control systems, and safety circuits.
- Design schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, harness documentation, grounding, shielding, routing, and connectorization.
- Build, commission, debug, and maintain test-cell electrical hardware and diagnose signal, drive, grounding, EMI, and power-quality issues.
- Partner with mechanical, software, and controls engineers on packaging, cooling, I/O, calibration, automation, and data capture.
- Establish commissioning, calibration, inspection, and preventive-maintenance procedures.
- Evaluate electrical components and vendors and analyze diagnostic data to improve reliability and lab uptime.
