EHS & Facilities Officer

Job Purpose

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing and maintaining EHS policies, procedures, and programs. • Conduct regular safety inspections and facility walkthroughs to ensure compliance with regulations and company standards. • Support Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and EOS-aligned EHS programs to promote continuous improvement in workplace safety. • Coordinate and document safety training sessions for employees and contractors. • Serve as first point of contact for minor incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; support investigations and escalate findings. • Maintain accurate EHS records and assist with regulatory documentation. • Support the JOSH and YOSHI committees by scheduling meetings, preparing minutes, and following up on action items. • Monitor and assist with emergency response plans, first aid resources, and evacuation drills. • Oversee day-to-day maintenance and facilities tasks, including contractor coordination, minor repairs, and office/lab floor support. • Identify and recommend opportunities for energy efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable practices. • Provide guidance to managers and employees on safe work practices and job hazard analysis (JHA).

Qualifications

• Credentials & Experience:
• Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field (A degree would be an asset) • 2–4 years of experience in EHS, safety coordination, or facilities support, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment. • Familiarity with WorkSafeBC regulations and ISO standards (ISO 14001, ISO 9001) an asset. • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities. • Good communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to coach and influence at the shop-floor level. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with facility management systems is an asset.
