Educational Developer

Impact. You will have the opportunity to influence teaching and learning beyond a single classroom, supporting faculty across disciplines, programs, campuses, and learning environments. Your work will help strengthen how faculty teach, respond to evolving learner needs, and create meaningful educational experiences for students, with an initial opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of Nursing and Health Sciences programming.

Opportunity to build. You will join the Centre for Teaching Excellence and Innovation at an exciting stage in its evolution. As the Centre continues to grow and scale its support for faculty, you will have the opportunity to build on established programming while bringing forward new ideas, responding to emerging trends in teaching and learning, and helping shape initiatives and resources that meet changing faculty and student needs.

Flexibility and collaboration. You will be part of a virtual team where you can manage your work with autonomy and flexibility while staying closely connected to experienced educational development leaders and colleagues across the organization. You will have the support and mentorship of a team deeply invested in teaching excellence, along with opportunities to collaborate across disciplines and connect with faculty and colleagues on campuses across Canada.

Develop and deliver faculty programming. You will plan, develop, facilitate, evaluate, and continuously improve workshops, webinars, courses, events, programs, and resources that support faculty development and teaching excellence. You will work across diverse teaching and learning environments, including online synchronous and asynchronous learning, classrooms and labs.

Partner with and support faculty. You will consult with faculty, instructional teams, course leads, and subject matter experts across disciplines to understand their needs and strengthen teaching practices. You will advise on evidence-informed pedagogy, digital teaching practices, instructional technologies, assessment of student learning, and opportunities for reflection and continuous improvement.

Support and welcome new faculty. You will play an active role in onboarding and developing new faculty through the Ready-to-Teach program and related initiatives. As faculty needs grow and evolve, including within Nursing and Health Sciences, you will help adapt existing programming and develop new approaches that respond to different disciplines, teaching environments, and learner needs.

Collaborate and build relationships. You will work closely with Senior Educational Developers, Educational Developers, Educational Technologists, and colleagues across Teaching and Learning, academic programs, the Library, and other teams. You will build relationships across campuses and with partner groups, connecting people, ideas, and resources to strengthen teaching excellence and innovation across Yorkville University and Toronto Film School.

Advance teaching excellence and innovation. You will stay current with emerging research and practices in higher education and translate relevant insights into practical opportunities for faculty. You will contribute to strategic initiatives, campus-wide conversations, resources, events, and scholarly activities while helping CTEI identify emerging needs and evolve its programming and approach

The education and credentials. You have completed a Master’s degree in a relevant field and bring knowledge of educational development and scholarship in higher education. You have completed the Facilitator Development Workshop (FDW) Certificate through the ISW Network and have experience facilitating Instructional Skills Workshops (ISWs) for faculty and academic staff.

The educational development experience. You have experience supporting faculty through educational development, including consultation, workshop facilitation, curriculum design and development, or a combination of these areas. You understand that effective educational development is relational and contextual, and you can adapt your approach to different disciplines, teaching environments, and faculty needs.

The teaching and learning expertise. You have knowledge of current educational research and evidence-informed approaches to teaching and learning in higher education. You can translate research and emerging practices into practical resources, programming, and recommendations that faculty can apply in their teaching. You also bring experience teaching in higher education and contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

The technical skills. You are comfortable working with learning management systems, educational technologies, and digital teaching tools. You are also proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and OneNote, and can quickly learn and apply new technologies that support faculty development and teaching excellence.

The collaborative and proactive approach. You are a relationship builder who can work independently while staying closely connected to a virtual team. You take initiative, manage competing priorities and deadlines, and are comfortable adapting as needs evolve. You can present ideas clearly, exchange constructive feedback, and build trusted relationships with faculty, academic leaders, and colleagues across disciplines and campuses.
