Early Learning Preschool Assistant - Long Term Substitute

Effective immediately, the Human Resources Department will accept online applications for the position of a Substitute in the Early Learning VPK Preschool program at Lincoln Elementary.

This position reports to the Director of Community Education.

Rate of pay: $17 an hour

Hours per day: 7 hours per day student contact days and 2 days of PD August 24 and 26, 2026

Work Dates: September 8 - November 30, 2026

Assist in providing a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate learning experience for all children and families.

Job Functions

• Plan and implement curriculum, as directed by the teacher or Coordinator.
• Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom - organized, safe and inclusive of learning centers.
• Prepare/maintain supplies, snacks, equipment/materials and classroom environment, as appropriate.
• Develop and maintain positive rapport, communication and interaction with each parent, child and staff member.
• Provide positive behavior guidance to all children.
• Greet each parent and child, request information from parents to best support each child and their learning style.
• Assist with separation issues to support each child and parent.
• Assist in implementation of strategies to promote the development of each child's social, interpersonal, motor and readiness skills.
• Observe, monitor, and record each child's development and behavior, as needed.
• Follow all health and safety guidelines.
• Assist staff and participate as a team member to provide a quality program.
• Respect confidentiality of students, families and staff members.
• Implement program policies, procedures and philosophy to provide an engaged, positive learning environment for all.
• Respond appropriately to emergency or crisis situations.
• Attend staff, community education, district or staff development activities/meetings, as directed or necessary.
• Remain flexible to assume duties as assigned.
• Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, staff, families and community members.
• Adhere to staff and program guidelines and district procedures and policies.
• Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years' experience working with diverse families and young children.
• Demonstrated knowledge of child development, behavior management skills, plus strong parent-child and child interaction skills to promote learning.
• Effective and positive interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with children, parents and staff.
• Effective interaction skills with diverse families and children.
• Experience using positive discipline techniques.
• Ability to understand and follow data privacy rules and regulations related to students and staff.
• Knowledge of and ability to follow health and safety procedures.
• Ability to follow directions, remain flexible to best meet program needs and function as a team member.
• Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of email, internet navigation and Microsoft Word.
