The Role
Providence is seeking a Director Software Engineering.
This is a newly created team to grow AI Technology and build Agentic AI software tools to replace legacy tools.
This person will create a technology roadmap for new software systems using more Generative AI and Agentic AI tools.
They will also This person will have a team of five people and be a liaison between this team and the other Engineering leaders.
They will look at Providences platform of systems for new applications.
As a Director Engineering, you will take end-to-end ownership for the development, quality, and delivery of solutions and services that delight caregivers and add strategic value to PSJH.
You will evaluate requirements, estimate costs, design and implement solutions, and define the quality criteria needed to ensure successful outcomes.
In this role, you will manage and improve the engineering process, navigate risks and dependencies, make thoughtful trade-offs, and integrate software into broader ecosystems, solutions, and services.
You will also guide architecture strategy, promote engineering excellence, and help teams deliver manageable, supportable, performant, and resilient solutions that meet business objectives and quality KPIs.
What You'Ll Do
- Architecture Strategist: Own software solution strategy, architecture, design, and engineering deliverables for the portfolio you support.
- Technical Solution Builder: Lead teams in designing technical solutions that deliver expected partner value and support PSJH business objectives, while ensuring the technical vision is iterative and positioned for future releases.
- Innovation Advisor: Anticipate industry, market, technology, and business trends, and advise leaders on new solutions, needed capabilities, and technologies that support the future solution vision.
- Cross-Service Planner: Use a broad, cross-service perspective to define software, tools, cloud services, processes, role assignments, dependencies, and documentation that result in complete, resilient, and supportable solutions.
- Quality Champion: Promote a culture of quality across Engineering teams, including product management, development, and testing, ensuring standards align with overall service and solution objectives.
- Testing and Performance Leader: Guide software engineers in the architecture and design of unit, integrated, load/performance, and security testing solutions to meet quality KPIs.
- Data-Driven Problem Solver: Use data and insights to understand solution quality, identify missing or ambiguous information, describe defects and their impact, and communicate findings in a clear and meaningful way.
- Agility Driver: Prioritize work across teams and multiple software solutions, rebalance priorities as needs change, and remove barriers so teams can respond quickly without losing solution focus.
- Engineering Process Improver: Optimize and transform the engineering lifecycle to achieve significant system improvements that support caregiver and business goals.
- Continuous Improvement Advocate: Drive new ways of thinking across the division to improve quality, engineering solutions, and responsiveness to feedback and changing priorities.
- Service Engineering Partner: Work with service engineering to define and build tools that support the software solution and establish the hand-off process between software engineering and service engineering.
- End-to-End Owner: Take pride and personal accountability for solution quality, completeness, and user experience throughout the full life of the solution.
- Proactive Issue Resolver: Resolve issues throughout the life of the solution, including those outside your area of responsibility when needed, and collaborate with peers to ensure success.
- Team Builder: Build a diverse team with the capabilities needed to achieve current and future business objectives, balancing employee development with internal and external talent.
- Talent Developer: Lead hiring, talent development, and performance management for managers and individual contributors, while growing the next generation of technical and management leaders.

What You'Ll Bring
- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent education/experience. A Master’s Degree in a related technical field is preferred.
- Experience: 10 or more years of related experience, with more preferred, including deep knowledge of software engineering best practices.
- Technical Team Leadership: 8 years of experience leading technical teams in a complex and fast-paced environment.
- Data-Driven Mindset: Strong experience leveraging data and metrics to drive behavior, process, and priority decisions across the team and IS.
- Healthcare Perspective: Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
- Influential Leadership: Proven ability to play an influential role within a functional area, across a division, and across IS through technical and business domain expertise.
- Relationship Builder: Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, customers, and executive leadership, while aligning cross-functionally with other teams’ roadmaps, strategies, and policies.
- Engineering Excellence: Expertise in software engineering best practices, with the ability to work hands-on and teach, mentor, and grow others in knowledge and skill.
- IS Leadership Impact: Ability to act as a key software engineering leader across IS, driving consistent methods and processes that demonstrate PSJH as a leader in the healthcare technology space.
- Independent Leadership: Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading and growing a technical team.
- Talent Growth Focus: Ability to hire, develop, and grow the next set of technical and management leaders.
- Execution Discipline: Proven ability to prioritize responsibilities, organize workload, meet timeframes, and successfully complete work within deadlines.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law.
Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position.
This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.
