Role overview

Project management leadership

• Manage the R&D Project Management department and implement R&D project management processes.
• Track project plans, budgets, and timelines against baselines and update them through the program management process.
• Align project plans with portfolio and product lifecycle management goals.
• Enable project managers to define critical path activities, timelines, costs, risks, and mitigation plans.
• Prepare monthly project forecasts and manage forecast-versus-actual variance within thresholds.

Governance and planning

• Support CSO-R&D budget preparation, yearly KPIs, and project plans.
• Provide input into resource, budget, and headcount strategy.
• Facilitate budget decisions and deliverables throughout the yearly cycle.
• Support R&D and science leaders in articulating decisions, risks, and options.
• Support portfolio management and finance leadership with timeline and cost evaluation.

Process improvement and technology

• Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve R&D productivity and streamline product development processes.
• Evaluate tools and coordinate vendors to support process improvement.
• Align technology-enabled solutions with evolving R&D needs.
• Coordinate with external vendors and internal data science and digital teams.
• Work with the Chief Scientific Officer and science department heads to improve processes and achieve yearly KPIs.

Experience and capabilities

• Experience leading complex programs within the pharmaceutical development lifecycle is preferred.
• Experience with CMO, CRO, or laboratory operations is preferred.
• A deep understanding of project plans, budgeting, and forecasting is a key attribute.
• Strong working knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D workflows, data, and applicable concepts is needed.
• The role requires cross-functional collaboration with quality, finance, accounting, legal, IT, and other teams.
