Director, Employee and Labour Relations

This position provides oversight in the design and implementation of employee and labour relations strategies, practices and procedures to meet the needs of the organization. In addition to being accountable for the day-to-day operations of Labour Relations and Employee Relations, this role is also accountable for designing and executing strategic goals that align to that of our organization and the People Services strategic plan. As part of our Peoples Services leadership team, you are the subject matter expert in a highly unionized environment who will provide coaching and guidance in all areas of labour relations and employee relations to the organization.
Position Summary
Employment Status: Permanent Full-Time
Hours of Work: Normal hours of work will be Monday - Friday. Evenings and work on weekends may be required based upon operational needs.
Location: Humber River Health, Wilson Site with occasional travel to Finch and Church site (as required).
Labour Group: Non-Union
Salary Range: $159,584.10 - $194,159.55
Key Responsibilities:
Oversight for consultative advice and assistance to People Services and client management in addressing labour relations issues and cases.
Provides expert and consistent interpretation, advice and counsel to effectively resolve complex people management issues.
Provides oversight to the employee and labour relations team and leads grievance and arbitration management and strategy development.
Collaborates with stakeholders in the development, recommendation and implementation of labour and employee relations strategy.
Oversee decisions on legal representation and budget.
Researches, negotiates and strategizes as Chief Spokesperson for HRH during collective bargaining process and advises management and OHA on negotiated contract changes and assist with strategic implementation.
Leads the implementation of strategies and principles of corporate initiatives, programs and policies involving labour relations.
Position Requirements:
5 years Human Resources experience in a highly unionized environment with a proven expertise in labour relations;
2 years progressive leadership experience in healthcare setting;
Master’s degree in a relevant field (Industrial Relations, Business, Human Resources);
Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation an asset;
Experience in leading local collective bargaining and negotiation preferred;
Demonstrated knowledge of conflict resolution theory and practice;
Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiation settlements in a complex union environment with multiple unions;
Expert knowledge of relevant Ontario employment legislation;
Ability to function independently and as a member of a team dealing with multiple priorities in a fast pace complex environment while fostering and maintaining constructive relationships with clients and union partners.
