The Director of AI Software Engineering leads delivery of AI applications from internal teams and third parties through production.
The role connects partner execution, strategy, business needs, data science, operations, and software engineering leadership.
Core responsibilities
- Lead AI software delivery within budget, scope, schedule, and quality standards.
- Manage engineers and contractors, provide day-to-day direction, and build a strong development culture.
- Define technology rollouts and architecture, research new delivery methods, and align stakeholders on execution plans.
- Coach teams on estimation, work sizing, Lean and Agile practices, and continuous improvement.
- Present updates to executives and internal customers and provide technical leadership for assigned initiatives.
- Track progress and risks, resolve conflicting priorities, and ensure compliance and controllership standards.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a STEM field with significant experience.
- At least 15 years of software engineering experience and 8 years in a technical engineering, systems architecture, or principal-level role.
- At least 5 years leading and managing software engineering organizations.
- Cloud SaaS delivery, commercial software product delivery, and AI application shipping experience with cost management.
Preferred characteristics
- Experience managing engineering managers and large, complex, cross-functional engineering organizations with contractors.
- Experience engaging senior executives across multiple business units and working in global organizations.
- Production experience deploying RAG pipelines.
- Experience with serverless technologies, AWS AgentCore, LangChain, AWS services, or other cloud platforms.
- Strong systems-level thinking and experience resolving complex delivery decisions.
