● We are looking for a Director of AI Load Power Strategy to lead the development of power strategy specific to AI/GPU load profiles for NScale's data center portfolio.
● This leader will own translation of AI/GPU compute growth scenarios into concrete power design and capacity requirements.
● You will lead a team of Staff Engineers delivering AI load power strategy and analysis.
What You'll be Doing (Responsibilities)
Load Strategy & Forecasting
● Build and maintain load forecasts based on AI/GPU growth scenarios, translating them into power capacity and design requirements.
● Analyze unique power profiles of AI/GPU workloads (e.g., transient loads, high density) and their implications for infrastructure design.
● Partner with Utility Development and Power Procurement to align load strategy with available capacity.
● Evaluate power supply strategies combining grid supply and on-site/behind-the-meter generation to meet AI/GPU load requirements, balancing reliability, schedule, and cost.
Engineering & Design Support
● Provide engineering leadership on power design requirements driven by AI/GPU load characteristics.
● Collaborate with Substation & Grid Engineering on design coordination for high-density loads.
● Support system studies (load flow, short-circuit, reliability) reflecting AI/GPU load profiles.
● Guide integration of generation, UPS, BESS, and microgrid controllers to improve resilience for AI/GPU workloads.
Team Leadership
● Lead and develop a team of Staff Engineers supporting AI load power strategy.
● Set technical standards and quality expectations for load analysis and design recommendations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
● Communicate AI load power strategy and its implications to Development, Operations, and executive leadership.
● Act as the subject matter expert on AI/GPU load and power topics.
About You (Skills / Qualifications)
Required
● Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
● 8-12+ years of experience in power systems engineering, with exposure to high-density or data center loads.
● Strong technical understanding of load profiles, power quality, and system studies.
● Demonstrated success leading or mentoring engineering teams.
