Role Overview

The Director of Engineering has overall responsibility for building, grounds, and physical plant maintenance at the hotel.

The role focuses on safety, security, asset protection, budget management, capital projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation.

The position leads emergency response for facility issues and ensures engineering services meet guest and employee needs.

Education and Experience

  • One qualification path is a high school diploma or GED, six years of engineering and maintenance or related experience, and technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing.
  • An alternative qualification path is a two-year degree in building and construction, engineering, mechanics, or a related major, four years of relevant experience, and technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing.

Engineering Operations

  • Manage the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
  • Administer service contracts and support property needs.
  • Develop engineering operating strategies aligned with property and brand business objectives.
  • Oversee long-term preventative maintenance and 10-year asset protection plans.
  • Supervise construction to complete projects on time and within budget guidelines.
  • Manage heat, light, power, water consumption, tools, equipment, vendors, and service agreements.

Standards and Life Safety

  • Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain fire-fighting equipment, sprinkler systems, alarm systems, and other property life safety systems.
  • Ensure building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications remain current.
  • Ensure the fire crew understands facility procedures, equipment, and alarms.
  • Lead the emergency response team for facility issues.

Financial and People Management

  • Develop and manage the engineering budget and monitor performance against budget.
  • Review operating statements, budget worksheets, payroll progress reports, and period-end P&L critiques.
  • Manage controllable expenses and participate in capital expenditure planning.
  • Coach and support engineering leaders and communicate departmental goals.
  • Support fair employee treatment, feedback, recognition, and resolution of workplace concerns.

Workplace and Schedule

  • The position is based at Diriyah Gate in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
  • The role is full time and is not remote.
  • The work requires responsibility for a hotel's physical plant, facilities, and emergency response operations.
