Position Summary

The Director of Engineering is responsible for property maintenance, the building, grounds, physical plant, safety, security, asset protection, budgets, capital projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation.

The role leads emergency response for facility issues and ensures products and services meet guest and employee needs while supporting financial performance.

Education and Experience

  • One pathway requires a high school diploma or GED, 6 years of relevant engineering and maintenance experience, and technical HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing training.
  • An alternative pathway requires a two-year degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major, 4 years of relevant experience, and technical HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing training.

Engineering Operations and Budgets

  • Manage the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems.
  • Administer service contracts and support property needs through vendors, service agreements, inventory, tools, and supplies.
  • Develop and manage the Engineering budget and monitor operating performance against budget.
  • Oversee long-term preventative maintenance and 10-year asset protection plans.
  • Supervise construction and capital expenditure projects within schedule and budget guidelines.

Standards and Asset Protection

  • Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain property life safety systems, including firefighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems.
  • Keep building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications current.
  • Ensure fire crews understand all relevant procedures, equipment, and alarms.

Profitability and Financial Management

  • Manage operations to budget using operating statements, budget worksheets, and payroll progress reports.
  • Manage payroll and controllable departmental expenses to achieve budgeted goals.
  • Participate in capital expenditure planning and the budgeting process.
  • Prepare weekly and period-end profit and loss critiques.

People and Guest Support

  • Coach and support engineering leadership in managing expenses and delivering departmental goals.
  • Ensure fair employee treatment and completion of disciplinary procedures and documentation.
  • Use employee feedback and an open-door policy to address concerns.
  • Resolve guest problems and complaints and involve Human Resources when necessary.
  • Maintain regular communication across engineering operations and lead emergency response for facility issues.
