Key skills for this role
We are seeking a SharePoint Solutions Engineer to design, build, support, and continuously improve modern SharePoint Online and Microsoft collaboration solutions for the business. This role sits within the Application Engineering team and works closely with business users, solution owners, and IT partners to translate business needs into scalable, intuitive, and maintainable digital solutions.
This role is not intended to be a legacy SharePoint infrastructure administration role. Our SharePoint migration is being handled by a vendor, while this position focuses on the target-state environment: modern site design, information architecture, automation, governance, user experience, and self-service enablement.
The ideal candidate combines technical capability with strong design and problem-solving aptitude. They should be comfortable working directly with business users, understanding requirements, and translating them into practical solutions using SharePoint, Power Platform, Microsoft Teams, and related Microsoft technologies.
We are intentionally targeting a strong mid-level profile rather than a deeply tenured legacy administrator. The right person is adaptable, hands-on, curious, and practical, someone who naturally looks for ways to reduce manual work, creates reusable patterns, and improves the end-user experience through automation, self-service, and thoughtful design.

Design, build, and enhance modern SharePoint Online communication sites, team sites, hub-connected sites, pages, document libraries, lists, and site navigation.
Configure and manage site structure, content types, site columns, metadata, views, document sets, versioning, retention settings, and permissions.
Create reusable site templates, page layouts, web part patterns, and governance standards to improve consistency and reduce one-off builds.
Develop scalable collaboration and content solutions aligned to business needs and supportability expectations.
Work directly with business users to understand pain points, business processes, information needs, and content management requirements.
Lead requirement-gathering and solution-design discussions and convert needs into practical implementation designs, user stories, acceptance criteria, and support documentation.
Recommend fit-for-purpose solutions using SharePoint, Microsoft Lists, Power Automate, Forms, Teams, and related Microsoft capabilities.
Balance user experience, speed of delivery, governance, and long-term maintainability.
Build and maintain Power Automate workflows for approvals, notifications, routing, reminders, document handling, and task coordination.
Configure list and library-based automation, forms-driven workflows, and integrations between SharePoint and other Microsoft 365 services.
Identify opportunities to simplify or eliminate manual processes through automation, standardization, and self-service.
Help modernize older workflow patterns and legacy solutions where needed, including prior Nintex or SharePoint Designer-based solutions.
Administer SharePoint Online sites, libraries, lists, permissions groups, sharing settings, and site ownership models.
Work with Microsoft 365 groups, Teams-connected sites, and user/group-based access models to support collaboration and permission management.
Partner effectively with identity and infrastructure teams on user provisioning, group membership, access requests, and permission troubleshooting where Active Directory / Entra ID concepts intersect with SharePoint access.
Troubleshoot issues related to pages, web parts, search behavior, permissions, metadata, document management, workflows, and integrations.
Support governance controls for site provisioning, access management, lifecycle management, content organization, and records/retention expectations.
Monitor site usage, adoption, and operational issues; recommend improvements to reduce support overhead and improve stability.
Design solutions with a strong focus on usability, findability, consistency, modern page design, and clean information architecture.
Improve navigation, metadata, searchability, landing pages, and content presentation to create a better end-user experience.
Enable business self-service through templates, guidance, page patterns, intake forms, automation, and clearly defined ownership/governance models.
Create solutions that reduce dependency on IT for repetitive or low-value tasks.
Create and maintain technical documentation, configuration records, SOPs, support guides, and solution design documentation.
Provide user training, knowledge-sharing, and enablement materials for site owners and business users.
Collaborate effectively with application engineering, business analysts, infrastructure/security teams, and external partners as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field.
Microsoft certifications are preferred, especially in Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Power Platform, Teams, or security/compliance.
Strong enough to work independently, but still adaptable and coachable.
Not stuck in legacy SharePoint thinking.
Has good design instincts and cares about business user experience.
Naturally looks for ways to simplify, automate, and standardize.
Can talk to business users without sounding like a pure technical administrator.
Can figure things out and implement cleanly without overengineering.
We value an automation-first, self-service-oriented mindset. The right candidate looks for ways to reduce manual effort, simplify processes, enable business users, and create maintainable solutions with low operational overhead.
Note: This job description intentionally emphasizes modern SharePoint solution engineering, business partnership, automation, UX, and self-service over legacy platform administration.
