Role Description

Design and Engineering

• Apply scientific and engineering principles to machine design.
• Execute conceptual and detailed design using 3D models of parts and assemblies.
• Optimize designs for manufacturing processes, assembly, and testing.
• Size and select motors, sensors, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatic and hydraulic components, and materials.
• Perform structural FEA, thermal, dynamics, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Prepare detailed drawings using GD&T.

Validation and Collaboration

• Support new-design validation through test-stand design and build, test-plan writing, and test-result analysis.
• Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and FMEA risk-mitigation activities.
• Collaborate with analysis, electrical, software, fluid power, metallurgy, manufacturing, and validation specialists.
• Write formal reports and present work to team members and management.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Skills and Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication and strong presentation skills.
• Excellent understanding of engineering principles, strong problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to take ownership, multitask, prioritize work, and learn independently.
• Ability to generate concept designs and select optimal concepts using methods such as selection matrices or TRIZ.
• Proficiency in MS Office; Visio or Project is nice to have.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a highly cohesive team.
• Knowledge of Unigraphics or other 3D CAD software is an asset.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on mechanical ability, and interest in mechanical design.
