Minimum Qualifications

• Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in architecture, construction management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, construction engineering, fire protection engineering, or a related field and experience equal to six years of full-time engineering work in the design and construction of buildings, utilities, earthwork, or related facilities and structures; work with building codes, fire codes, and handicapped accessibility regulations, direct involvement in the preparation of architectural or building engineering construction documents or in the review of such documents for conformance with applicable portions of these codes and regulations; or work as a construction manager, general contractor, subcontractor, or similar role. All of the following (1 and 2): Six years of full-time work experience in engineering work in the design and construction of buildings, utilities, earthwork, or related facilities and structures; work with building codes, fire codes, and handicapped accessibility regulations, direct involvement in the preparation of architectural or building engineering construction documents or in the review of such documents for conformance with applicable portions of these codes and regulations; or work as a construction manager, general contractor, subcontractor, or similar role; and A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in architecture, construction management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, construction engineering, fire protection engineering, or a related field equals one year of full-time experience. All of the following (1 and 2): Four years of full-time work experience (as described in number one); and Licensure as a Professional Engineer by the Iowa Engineering and Land Surveying Examining Board. All of the following (1 and 2): Four years of full-time work experience (as described in number one); and Licensure as an Architect by the Iowa Architectural Examining Board. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Design & Construction Engineer 1. • Licensure as an Architect by the Iowa Architectural Examining Board.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Design & Construction Engineer 1.

Other Qualifications

• Within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority, certain employees in this class may be required to obtain a Fire Sprinkler Installer and Maintenance License in accordance with Chapter 100D, Iowa Code. Applicants for natural resources positions should indicate in the appropriate section of the application: hydraulics, fluid mechanics or hydrology coursework completed or submit a college transcript with the application.
