Position Title

  • Deputy Chief Information Officer Operations

Job Description

  • Serves at the direction of the CIO.
  • Helps set strategic direction for IT operations for Salt Lake City Corporation.
  • Must be a dynamic, visionary, and transformative leader.
  • Appointed, at will position without tenure.

Typical Duties

  • Sets strategic direction for IT operations including computer systems, Internet, and telephone systems.
  • Assists division directors in setting goals and objectives.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost effective investment in IT systems.
  • Develops business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses.
  • Directs development of enterprise wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan.
  • Works with IT Steering Committee to ensure technology framework integrity.
  • Develops and reviews new technology development plan.
  • Assists CIO in developing IT operations budget.
  • Formulates and implements innovative strategies.
  • Researches and analyzes trends in local government.
  • Utilizes quantitative and research methods for improvement opportunities.
  • Represents city and serves as liaison with other agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field.
  • Ten or more years related experience including business consulting, management of a large IT team and operations.
  • Experience must include operational oversight of network services, telecommunications, software development, and technology support services.
  • Advanced knowledge of current trends in IT and management.
  • Considerable knowledge of business theory, processes, systems analysis, management, budgeting.
  • Ability to supervise highly technical personnel.
  • Detailed knowledge of software development technologies and methodologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple enterprise wide development projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field or MBA with technology component preferred.

Salary Range

  • $175,000 $220,000 annually.
