About the Role
Sharjah National Oil Corporation seeks a Data Management Specialist to oversee upstream technical and geospatial data integrity, lifecycle, and governance. The role manages E&P datasets, physical samples, and spatial frameworks to support cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
- Maintain the corporate E&P data classification system, taxonomy, and master catalogue for physical and digital upstream datasets
- Govern the full technical data lifecycle including receipt, indexing, QC, archiving, and secure sharing of geological, geophysical, seismic, well, reservoir, production, and physical sample datasets
- Validate and QC all GIS and spatial datasets to ensure strict alignment with WGS84 and company coordinate reference systems
- Manage corporate well databases including headers, deviations, formation data, and histories
- Coordinate with external vendors, partners, and data contractors on specialised archiving, digitisation, tape transcription, and delivery projects
- Enforce data governance workflows, managing user access rights, secure data exchange tracking, and naming conventions
- Advance digital transformation through data automation frameworks, improved system accessibility, and cross departmental workflow integration
- Provide day to day user support, software platform guidance, and technical database training to multidisciplinary technical teams
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Data Management, Geomatics, GIS, or related technical discipline
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in the upstream petroleum industry with direct hands on responsibility for upstream data management
- Practical experience across the full data lifecycle in an upstream environment
- Practical experience in managing physical and digital E&P libraries
- Strong understanding of upstream data governance including metadata standards, data ownership, access control, version control, data lineage, and quality assurance
- Familiarity with seismic data formats (2D/3D datasets, SEGY/SEGD handling) and well log digitisation and G&G data vectorisation
- Knowledge of partner data management protocols and joint venture data sharing practices
- Applied knowledge of GIS tools, geodetic data workflows, coordinate reference systems, and spatial data quality control principles

JOB PURPOSE
- The Data Management Specialist oversees the integrity, lifecycle, governance, and effective use of SNOC’s upstream technical and geospatial data.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain the corporate E&P data classification system, taxonomy, and master catalogue for physical and digital upstream datasets.
- Govern the full technical data lifecycle, including receipt, indexing, QC, archiving, and secure sharing of geological, geophysical, seismic, well, reservoir, production, and physical sample datasets.

Qualifications / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Data Management, Geomatics, GIS, or a related technical discipline.
- Equivalent professional experience in an upstream data management role will also be considered in the absence of a degree.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in the upstream petroleum industry, with direct hands on responsibility for upstream data management.
Specific job skills
- Practical experience across the full data lifecycle in an upstream environment: receipt, cataloguing, QC, storage, retrieval, and sharing of technical datasets.
- Practical experience in managing physical and digital E&P libraries, including off site storage providers and tape transcription workflows.
- Strong understanding of upstream data governance, including metadata standards, data ownership, access control, version control, data lineage, and quality assurance.
- Familiarity with seismic data formats (2D/3D datasets, SEGY/SEGD handling) and with well log digitisation and G&G data vectorisation.
- Knowledge of partner data management protocols and joint venture data sharing practices common among national and international upstream operators.
- Applied knowledge of GIS tools, geodetic data workflows, coordinate reference systems, and spatial data quality control principles.
