Role overview
Data Centre Operations Technician role supporting managed services hardware and data centre operations.
The position covers deployment, configuration, troubleshooting and replacement of server, storage, network and power-monitoring equipment.
The role supports internal and external customer environments and works with data centre specialists and managers.
Technical operations
- Install, patch and configure bespoke environments for internal and external vendor solutions.
- Deploy and support network, server and storage hardware from multiple manufacturers.
- Use ticketing systems and meet fault-resolution SLAs for managed service hardware.
- Troubleshoot, configure and replace components in servers, switches, firewalls and storage arrays.
Power, connectivity and cabling
- Install, configure and load-balance intelligent PDUs for power monitoring.
- Troubleshoot LAN connectivity issues and restore remote access through SSH, Terminal Services, Remote Desktop Services or remote access controllers.
- Troubleshoot structured cabling links between racks and coordinate repair and re-testing.
Operational improvement
- Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement within the data centre.
- Work with data centre specialists and managers to create a library of supporting procedure documentation.
Required experience and knowledge
- Proficiency in server, storage and network deployment and ongoing break-fix support.
- Basic knowledge of data centre M&E design, power, cooling and redundancy.
- Experience in a managed hosting, public cloud or private cloud enterprise data centre environment.
- Deep understanding of DCIM tooling and accurate asset tracking, particularly NLyte.
- A full UK driving licence and personal car are required.
