Position Overview
The BC Securities Commission is seeking a full-time Data Analyst for its Technology and Projects Services Division.
The Data Analyst supports business intelligence, data governance, ad-hoc reporting, dashboards, and data-related projects.
The role analyzes, cleans, prepares, stores, and interprets internal and external data for defined use cases and advanced analytics.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, clean, transform, and analyze data from multiple sources for reporting and decision-making.
- Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models.
- Create and optimize Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations.
- Support data accuracy, integrity, accessibility, and BI platforms.
- Use Azure services and advanced analytics tools for processing and automation.
- Maintain data management policies, classification, lineage, and security using governance best practices.
- Use Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Fabric for governance, integration, transformation, and orchestration.
- Develop and maintain ETL and ELT pipelines with SSIS, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and related tools.
- Perform statistical analysis with Python, R, or other programming languages.
- Troubleshoot database performance and collaborate with stakeholders to develop data solutions.
Qualifications
- A technical diploma or university degree in computer science, management information systems, or a similar field and at least 3 years of SQL and data analytics experience are required, or an equivalent combination.
- Hands-on experience with T-SQL, JSON, Power Query, Power BI, SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, Azure analytics tools, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Fabric is preferred.
- Experience with data governance, data quality, data dictionaries, lineage, business rules, ETL, ELT, and pipeline optimization is required.
- Understanding of statistical computing with R or Python, data modeling, data warehousing, and data mining is required.
- Strong analytics, communication, prioritization, and deadline-management skills are required.
