Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit customs declarations for imports and exports through the appropriate UK customs systems
- Ensure compliance with all UK customs regulations, HMRC requirements, and international trade legislation
- Classify goods accurately using commodity codes and determine applicable duties, taxes, and tariffs
- Manage customs documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and shipping documents
- Liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, government authorities, and internal stakeholders to facilitate smooth customs clearance
- Monitor shipments and resolve customs related issues, delays, inspections, or queries
- Maintain up to date knowledge of UK customs procedures, post Brexit regulations, and changes in international trade requirements
- Support duty management processes, including duty deferment accounts and customs compliance audits
- Ensure records are maintained in accordance with HMRC requirements and company policies
- Provide guidance and support to internal departments regarding customs compliance and import/export procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve customs processes, reduce clearance delays, and minimise duty and compliance risks
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience in customs clearance, international logistics, freight forwarding, or a similar role with specific UK customs experience
- Strong understanding of UK import and export procedures, customs declarations, and border regulations
- Experience working with HMRC customs systems and customs declaration software
- Knowledge of commodity classification, customs valuation, rules of origin, and duty calculations
- Familiarity with Incoterms and international shipping documentation
- Experience handling shipments across multiple product categories
- Proven ability to manage customs related issues and communicate effectively with regulatory authorities and logistics partners
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry

Position Summary

- The successful candidate will be responsible for managing customs clearance activities, ensuring the accurate and timely movement of goods through UK customs while maintaining full compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
