This position provides legal advice to H&R Block, Inc. and its subsidiaries on a variety of complex legal issues, including business operations and complex transactions in support of strategic imperatives.

- Research, analyze and provide legal advice to business units on complex legal and compliance matters related to Company’s operations, product and strategic initiatives , particularly in the area of small business services, with a focus on DIY software solutions offered in both the US and Canada.
- Provide legal counsel and guidance regarding complex transactions involving sophisticated counterparties and external service providers, including professional services agreements, licenses, and other strategic sourcing agreements.
- Assist with legal review and risk mitigation tactics regarding all aspects of client interactions, including consumer disclosures and agreements, identity verification and authentication, e-signatures, marketing, privacy and data use, and customer service.
- Work closely with the VP-Legal Financial Services/Franchise/Small Business, General Counsel, and key business partners to provide high level legal support on a variety of initiatives.
- Monitor evolving laws that may impact the business and help design and implement compliant solutions.
- Serve as a department subject matter expert on matters related to small business services, including, bookkeeping, payroll, payments, financial technology, advisory services, and commercial finance solutions.
- Contribute to team efforts by timely meeting commitments and working collaboratively with minimal supervision.
- Periodically assist with diverse high demand legal projects outside normal area of focus.
- Manage outside counsel within budget.
- Some domestic or international travel may be required.
- Juris Doctorate degree plus license to practice law in one or more states. A current member of the Missouri Bar or an ability to become a member of the Missouri Bar within six months.
- At least five years of legal experience at a large law firm, corporate legal department, or similar.
- Detail-oriented focus, with demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to communicate and persuade a wide range of audiences.
