Hoist & Crane Service Group seeks a Corporate Controller to lead accounting operations for a $150M private equity-backed industrial services business. The role owns the general ledger, monthly close, financial reporting, internal controls, multi-state sales tax compliance, and audit activity.

Responsibilities
- Own the monthly close process end to end with a target of Business Day 12
- Produce accurate, GAAP compliant financial statements each period
- Partner with FP&A Manager to ensure actual results are accurately loaded
- Maintain integrity and organization of the general ledger
- Own sales tax compliance across all 30 branch locations
- Lead evaluation, selection, and implementation of a sales tax automation platform
- Design, document, and maintain a robust internal control environment
- Champion and project manage automation initiatives
- Oversee AP and AR functions
- Provide oversight to Payroll Manager
- Manage daily cash positioning and produce weekly cash flow forecasts
- Lead implementation of a treasury management system
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or relevant field
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- At least 3 years as a Controller or Assistant Controller
- Experience managing a multi function accounting team
- Demonstrated experience with multi state sales tax compliance
- Thorough command of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience in a private equity backed or performance driven business environment
- Strong knowledge of internal controls design in a multi location environment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with mid market ERP platforms
- Excellent communication skills
- CPA (active or inactive)
- Public accounting experience

Purpose Of The Job
- Hoist & Crane Service Group seeks an experienced Corporate Controller to serve as senior accounting leader of a $150M revenue, private equity backed industrial services business operating across 30 branch locations.
- Reports directly to CFO and partners with FP&A Manager.
- Owns integrity of general ledger, monthly close, financial reporting, internal controls, multi state sales tax compliance, and audit activity.
- Leads a team of eight across general accounting, AP, AR, and payroll.
Financial Close & Reporting
- Own monthly close process end to end with target of Business Day 12.
- Produce GAAP compliant financial statements each period.
- Partner with FP&A Manager to ensure actual results are accurately loaded.
- Maintain integrity of general ledger.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
Multi State Sales Tax Compliance
- Own sales tax compliance across all 30 branch locations.
- Lead evaluation and implementation of a sales tax automation platform.
- Manage nexus determinations, exemption certificate administration, and taxability analysis.
- Serve as primary point of contact for sales tax audits.
- Partner with operations and sales teams for proper tax treatment.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Design, document, and maintain robust internal control environment.
- Establish month end close checklists and standard operating procedures.
- Continuously evaluate accounting processes for improvements.
- Drive culture of financial accountability.
Technology Transformation
- Champion automation initiatives: sales tax, AP workflow, AR automation, treasury management.
- Define requirements, manage vendor relationships, coordinate with IT.
- Identify additional opportunities to leverage technology.
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable Oversight
- Oversee AP function: ensure timely vendor invoice processing, payment runs, reconciliations.
- Oversee AR function: monitor billing, collections, DSO, aging.
- Provide weekly AR/AP visibility to FP&A Manager.
Payroll Oversight
- Provide oversight to Payroll Manager; ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Review and approve payroll journal entries and reconciliations.
- Partner with HR on compensation changes and benefits accounting.
Cash & Treasury Management
- Manage daily cash positioning and produce weekly cash flow forecasts.
- Lead implementation of treasury management system.
- Coordinate with FP&A Manager on working capital targets.
Audit, Tax & External Compliance
- Serve as primary liaison with external auditors.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors.
- Ensure timely filing of all tax returns.
M&A & Transaction Support
- Support financial due diligence for add on acquisitions.
- Lead accounting integration of acquired entities.
- Assist CFO with exit preparation activities.
