Key Responsibilities

  • As a Corporate Attorney , your duties will include:
  • Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws governing automotive sales, financing, advertising, and environmental regulations. Monitor and advise on changes in laws and regulations affecting the automotive industry.

  • Contract Management : Draft, review, and negotiate sales agreements, financing contracts, vendor agreements, and service contracts. Assist in negotiations with suppliers, lenders, and partners to secure favorable terms.

  • Real Estate Transactions : Manage legal aspects of acquiring or leasing property for dealership locations. Navigate local zoning laws and obtain necessary permits.

  • Intellectual Property Protection : Protect the company's brand names, logos, and marketing materials. Handle agreements related to the use of proprietary technologies or software.

  • Consumer Protection Laws : Ensure that sales and advertising practices comply with FTC regulations and the Truth in Lending Act. Address legal issues arising from customer complaints or disputes.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have:
  • Active Membership in the Maryland Bar Association : Must have been a member for at least 2 years.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree : From an accredited law school.
  • Experience : Minimum of 2 years of corporate legal experience, preferably in the automotive industry or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Relevant Laws and Regulations : Strong understanding of federal, state, and local laws affecting the automotive industry.
  • Excellent Communication Skills : Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Negotiation Skills : Proven ability to negotiate contracts and legal agreements effectively.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills : Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide practical solutions.
  • Organizational Skills : Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Trustworthiness and Confidentiality : High degree of integrity in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with Legal Software and Microsoft Office Suite : Familiarity with legal research tools and document management systems.
  • Ability to Commute/Relocate : Ability to reliably commute to Sterling, VA, or plan to relocate before starting work (required).
