About the Role - We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to lead our accounting operation and help build a best-in-class finance function.
This position will serve as the operational leader of the accounting department, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting while supporting the company's continued growth.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day accounting operations across multiple affiliated entities.
- Supervise and develop the accounting team, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and accounting staff.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain the general ledger and oversee account reconciliations.
- Develop, implement, and monitor strong internal controls and accounting policies.
- Coordinate annual financial audits and work directly with external auditors.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Monitor cash management and support treasury functions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements.
- Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency improvements, and process enhancements.
- Partner with department leaders to provide financial guidance and operational support.
- Support strategic initiatives and special projects assigned by the CFO.
Qualifications & Skills
- A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.
- CPA designation is strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Previous Controller or Assistant Controller experience preferred.
- Experience managing accounting teams.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with month-end close, audits, budgeting, and financial statement preparation.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems.
- Experience with lending, financial services, banking, mortgage, or private lending is highly preferred.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes and build scalable accounting operations.
