Continental Field Supervisor

• Directly supervises Field Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor, all field camp managers/supervisors and traverse supervisors. May supervise project coordinators as appropriate.
• Directs opening and closing schedules for all staffed and non-staffed Field Area field facilities.
• Collaborates with FEMC, Field Facility Engineer, MEC, camp management and/or others as necessary to ensure in-season field facility or power system maintenance is conducted within scope, labor, and schedule parameters.
• Responsible for safety topics at field camp meetings in McMurdo Station, including field safety procedures and protocols.
• Communicates frequently with field camps for daily and weekly planning and documents previous week’s accomplishments.
• Produces daily and weekly reports of camp operations at request of the Field Operations Manager.
• Executes project plans in coordination with Field Area Leadership and Science Project Managers.
• Sets priorities for field camp flight movements.
• Interacts with National Science Foundation, other sub-contractors (e.g. air support providers), military, other agency officials, and Antarctica New Zealand, both over the telephone and in person, in a professional and tactful manner.
• Conducts inventories, general organization, and mapping of field camp related cargo and supplies staged in McMurdo Station to include field medical. Coordinates with Supply as appropriate for the various locations and items.
• Oversees camp staff training and development program. Schedules field camp staff trainings in McMurdo Station. Provides camp staff with pertinent information throughout field season, such as HR, finance, and redeployment, updates.
• Works with science teams at field camps to provide required support, troubleshoot issues, and is involved in decision making; collaborates with Field Science Implementation Manager as necessary. May handle and resolve difficult situations such as personnel issues or resource limitations.
• Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring safety is the highest priority in the field camps.
• Communicates expectations to camp and traverse staff.
• Conducts and documents pre-season expectation meetings with field team leaders.
• Completes mid-season and end of season performance evaluations for camp and traverse managers and supervisors and assists with other evaluations as necessary.
• Submits required documentation for accidents, incidents and near misses in a timely manner
• Ensures quality camp and traverse record keeping and end of season reporting (and makes sure pertinent camp information gets passed along to the following season’s managers and supervisors)
• Performs other duties as required.

• BA/BS degree is required. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of a degree.
• Current Wilderness First Responder & ICS 100 & 200 required.
• Three years’ experience in resource planning is required.
• Three years’ experience must be in supervision or management of employees is required.

• Must have experience in remote field camp operations.
• Must have additional experience in any combination of the following: weather reporting, equipment maintenance, risk management, aviation, construction, fuel operations, and/or logistics.
• Must demonstrate excellent customer service background.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills along with the ability to work well under pressure.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite and working knowledge of basic computer applications is required (ex. cargo tracking software).

• Experience working with aircraft supported field programs is preferred.
• Two seasons of direct field camp experience working in Polar climates is preferred

• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
• Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
• Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
• Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
• Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
• Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
• Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
• Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
• No clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
