Role overview

The Consultant Pediatric Anesthesiologist provides advanced anesthesia care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.

The role covers elective, emergency, and high-risk surgical settings, including perioperative assessment, intraoperative management, postoperative pain control, and pediatric critical care pathways.

Practice must be safe, evidence-based, aligned with international standards, and compliant with UAE regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide anesthesia care for pediatric and neonatal patients and manage high-risk surgical cases.
  • Conduct preoperative assessment and risk stratification.
  • Manage airways, ventilation, anesthesia, and hemodynamic monitoring during surgery.
  • Oversee postoperative recovery, pain management, and sedation protocols.
  • Support PICU and NICU teams with airway management and procedural sedation.
  • Participate in pediatric emergency response, resuscitation, and stabilization.
  • Maintain safety standards, clinical documentation, audits, governance, and quality improvement.
  • Teach and supervise clinical staff and participate in simulation training.
  • Contribute to research, academic activities, policy development, clinical pathways, and patient-safety programs.

Qualifications and requirements

  • MBBS, MD, or equivalent medical degree.
  • Completed residency in Anesthesiology and recognized Pediatric Anesthesia fellowship or subspecialty training.
  • Board certification from an accepted board or equivalent.
  • Eligibility for a DOH/HAAD Consultant License.
  • Three to five years of post-consultant pediatric anesthesia experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in neonatal and pediatric airway management.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Tertiary-care or high-volume pediatric surgical center experience is advantageous.
