Role Summary
Lead and supervise the on-site civil construction activities for a utility-scale solar PV project in a remote location in Zambia, supporting the delivery of the works from site mobilisation through civil and electrical construction to commissioning, grid connection, and handover.
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will oversee daily site operations, coordinate subcontractors and labour teams, monitor progress against the construction programme, and ensure all works are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved specifications and quality standards.
This is a residential, site-based role suited to an experienced construction supervisor who is practical, organised, and confident operating in remote environments.
Key Responsibilities
· Supervise daily construction activities on site, directing labor and coordinating subcontractor teams to ensure works are carried out safely, on programme, and to the required quality standard.
· Take direct responsibility for the civil construction scope, overseeing earthworks, foundations, cable trenching, equipment plinths, and associated structural works from mobilisation through to handover.
· Monitor progress against the construction schedule, reporting deviations to the Project Manager and supporting the implementation of corrective measures to recover lost time.
· Conduct regular site inspections to verify that all works conform to approved drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
· Enforce health, safety, and environmental compliance across the site, carrying out toolbox talks, inductions, and hazard inspections in accordance with the site safety plan.
· Maintain accurate site records including daily diaries, material delivery logs, workforce attendance, and photographic progress documentation.
· Liaise with subcontractor site representatives to resolve day-to-day technical and logistical issues.
Essential Requirements
· Engineering or construction management degree (or equivalent experience).
· 5+ years in construction supervision, including at least one utility-scale solar PV project (>20 MWp) delivered start to finish.
· Proven experience working in Africa or similar remote, emerging-market environments.
· Track record of assembling and leading multidisciplinary site teams of 50+ personnel.
· Fluent English; medically fit for remote site work.
Personal Attributes
Resilient, hands-on leader with strong cultural intelligence, uncompromising integrity, and a genuine commitment to developing local talent.
Comfortable with extended time away from home, heat, dust, and the operational realities of remote sites.
Package
Competitive salary, site allowance, return travel covered, camp accommodation.
