Computer Technician Principal Class - Wemindji Schools

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of School Support – Northern sector at Information & Technologies services, the principal role of this position is to help the schools in the community of Wemindji to maximize the computer integration within the classrooms and office environment. An additional customary work of this employee in this class of employment consists in installing and supporting in-house or commercial applications, managing the networks, fixing highly complicated problems for computer users (administrative staff, teachers and students). As a third role, this employee will also provide I.T. assistance to the Wemindji Sabtuan Adult Training Center in supporting locally and remotely the installed computer base.

Tests or modifies applications in order to meet the specific needs of users more specifically at the pedagogical but also at the administrative level;

Manages, installs and configures systems components, and tests, modifies and upgrades computer networks according to the procedures established by the I.T. Services;

Acts as a resource person for the highly complicated maintenance of equipment’s and software, particularly with regard to the installation and configuration.

Develops and oversees the application of various procedures related to the use of networks and equipment, particularly those concerning backup copies, deletion of obsolete files and equipment maintenance as well as the maintenance of network user accounts in accordance to the Internet, Email and Use of Network Resources Policy in place at the Cree school Board;

Drafts instructions for software and applications and participates in the training of users and supports them in order to maximize their use;

Formulate and proposes suggestions concerning the purchase of computer equipment in accordance to the standards in place established by the Director of Information & technologies;

Assists, if needed, in the development and implementation of computer systems,

Participates, in various computer-related works in cooperation with the other members of the information & technologies services;
