Responsibilities
- Assess potential environmental and occupational health risks associated with briquette production and usage
- Recommend evidence based mitigation measures
- Review operations and member practices for compliance with relevant environmental and occupational health standards
- Develop guidelines and tools
- Prepare clear reports and recommendations
- Conduct desk based risk assessments and analyze data
- Support environmental health and safety (EHS) policies
- Provide technical input for member training and capacity building programs
- Collaborate with internal teams, member organizations, and partners
- Communicate technical information in accessible language for diverse stakeholders
Requirements
- Strong foundation in Environmental Health and Environmental Compliance
- Practical experience or knowledge in Environment Health and Safety (EHS) and Occupational Health
- Excellent Communication skills, with ability to translate technical information into clear guidance for non technical audiences
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field (or equivalent relevant experience)
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders
- Experience with data collection, basic analysis, and report writing related to environmental or health indicators is an advantage
- Familiarity with clean energy, biomass, or briquette production sectors in Kenya or East Africa is a plus

Role Description
- The Environmental Health Specialist is a full time, remote role responsible for supporting UBPA’s environmental and public health initiatives within the briquette sector.
- This role involves assessing potential environmental and occupational health risks associated with briquette production and usage, and recommending evidence based mitigation measures.
- The specialist will review operations and member practices for compliance with relevant environmental and occupational health standards, develop guidelines and tools, and prepare clear reports and recommendations.
- Day to day tasks include conducting desk based risk assessments, analyzing data, supporting environmental health and safety (EHS) policies, and providing technical input for member training and capacity building programs.
- The role also involves collaborating with internal teams, member organizations, and partners, and communicating technical information in accessible language for diverse stakeholders.
Qualifications
