The Opportunity
The Communications Branch at the Ministry of Agriculture is looking for an experienced, strategic and people-focused Communications Director to lead a talented team of communications professionals. This is an opportunity for a strong communicator and thoughtful leader to bring energy, creativity and sound judgment to work that supports Saskatchewan’s agriculture sector, promotes ministry programs and services and helps tell the story of one of the province’s most important industries.
In this role, you will lead strategic communications planning, issues management, media relations, internal communications, digital content and public-facing promotion. You will coach a high-performing team, bring focus to competing priorities, provide trusted advice to senior leaders and ensure communications are clear, timely and connected to the needs of producers, industry partners and the people of Saskatchewan.
Responsibilities
- Manages public relations including stakeholder engagement, media relations, social media, event coordination, and the creation of communication assets.
- Manages the creation of publications, speeches, articles, website content, briefing materials, and news releases.
- Provides oversight for operational activities such as advertising, media placement, media relations and stakeholder relations.
- Develops, implements, and executes internal and external strategic communications plans.
- Ensures communications are clear, timely, accessible and aligned with government direction, ministry priorities, public trust objectives and approval processes.
- Organizes, presents, and communicates information to diverse audiences to support decisions and actions.
- Facilitates discussions on relevant issues, ensuring understanding and encouraging feedback.
- Identifies and assesses data, evaluates options, and develops recommendations and responses.
- Anticipates and assesses broad issues impacting departmental and government mandates.
- Provides strategic communications advice to senior leaders and the Minister’s Office, including issues management, reputational risk assessment, public messaging, media responses and communications planning for sensitive or high-profile matters.
