About the Role
Buro Happold Engineering in Riyadh seeks a Commercial & Contract Solicitor to provide legal and contractual advice for KSA projects. The role involves reviewing and negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance with Saudi regulations, and supporting claims and disputes.

Responsibilities
- Review, negotiate, and finalize contractual documentation including consultancy agreements, sub consultancy agreements, collateral warranties, novation agreements, letters of intent, and related project documentation
- Provide clear, practical legal and commercial advice to mitigate contractual and commercial risks across KSA project portfolio
- Ensure adherence to corporate governance requirements, internal compliance policies, and Saudi legal frameworks
- Support claims and disputes, including coordination with insurers and external counsel
- Assist in developing and implementing systems, processes, and procedures for the Commercial & Legal team
- Review bids and contracts to ensure conformity with LCGPA requirements and Local Content compliance
- Receive insurance requests from project teams, liaise with local brokers, follow up on policy issuance
- Record and maintain accurate information on all issued Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for KSA projects
- Support project teams with risk identification, including advising on variation and change orders
- Attend client and stakeholder meetings to discuss project status and contractual matters
Requirements
- Legal qualification with approximately 2–7 years post qualification experience (PQE)
- Experience in consultancy and engineering law preferred; strong general commercial law experience considered
- Strong understanding of Saudi regulations and compliance frameworks
- Familiarity with Local Content requirements and KSA government commercial and procurement laws
- Excellent contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills
- Strong communication skills in English and Arabic

Your key duties

- Support claims and disputes, including coordination with insurers and external counsel where required, to protect the company’s interests.
- Assist in developing and implementing systems, processes, and procedures that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Commercial & Legal team.
- Review bids and contracts to ensure conformity with LCGPA requirements and Local Content compliance, working closely with internal stakeholders to align with KSA government commercial and procurement laws.
- Receive insurance requests from project teams, liaise with local brokers, follow up on policy issuance, and escalate issues where necessary.
- Record and maintain accurate information on all issued Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for KSA projects.
- Support project teams with risk identification, including advising on variation and change orders and their contractual implications.
- Attend client and stakeholder meetings to discuss project status, contractual matters, and to help resolve issues collaboratively.
Your skills and experience
- Legal qualification with approximately 2–7 years post qualification experience (PQE).
- Experience in consultancy and engineering law is preferred; strong general commercial law experience will also be considered.
- Strong understanding of Saudi regulations and compliance frameworks, ideally within the context of major projects or professional services.
- Familiarity with Local Content requirements and KSA government commercial and procurement laws and practices.
- Excellent contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills, with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial objectives.
- Ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and manage multiple matters and deadlines simultaneously in a fast paced project environment.
- Strong communication skills in English and Arabic, with the ability to engage confidently with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
