About the Role

Join SGS as a Coal Technician to deliver accurate, high-quality sample collection and analysis for CHPP and train operations.

Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where attention to detail directly impacts critical testing processes.

Develop expertise in a specialized technical role while contributing to essential operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute precise sampling, preparation, analysis, and reporting procedures while maintaining the highest accuracy standards.
  • Deliver all work on schedule with meticulous attention to detail and quality assurance.
  • Maintain complete traceability and integrity of all samples throughout the testing process.
  • Proactively support the maintenance and optimal performance of lab and prep equipment.
  • Champion a safety-first culture by identifying hazards and promoting best practices across the team.
  • Foster seamless communication and knowledge transfer with incoming and outgoing shift teams.
  • Take ownership by immediately flagging unsafe or faulty equipment and escalating concerns.
  • Conduct routine sampling, preparation, and analysis for shipping and exploration initiatives.
  • Strategically plan daily tasks, coordinate sample logistics, and optimize testing schedules.

Requirements

  • Experience in coal sampling, preparation, and testing, or within a mineral laboratory environment (preferred but not essential).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Availability to work a 7/7 rotating day and night roster.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team in remote locations.
  • Current Australian manual driver's licence (preferred).
  • Current Standard 11 certification.
  • Ability to meet pre-employment medical and fitness-for-work requirements.
