Role Overview
The Senior CNC Machinist is expected to demonstrate technical competence, consistent performance, and the ability to support junior machinists and daily shopfloor coordination when needed.
Safety and Quality
- Comply with local regulations, HOST policies, HSE procedures, approved standards, work instructions, and inspection requirements.
- Handle tooling, raw materials, lifting equipment, and machine controls safely.
- Report near misses, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries.
- Stop work and escalate immediately when an unsafe condition or quality risk is identified.
Machine Operations
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machines, including Mazak and Mori Seiki equipment.
- Read, interpret, and verify CNC programs and calculate tool paths, offsets, and cutting angles.
- Adjust CNC programs for basic processes such as blanking based on actual material dimensions.
- Set up complex parts and handle carbon steel and chrome materials.
- Select tools, inserts, and fixtures and ensure their safe and effective use.
- Achieve threading quality and perform first article inspection across products and material grades.
- Troubleshoot technical machining issues to minimize downtime.
Technical Interpretation
- Read and interpret engineering drawings covering dimensions, tolerances, surface finish, and notes.
- Use micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, dial indicators, and other measurement instruments correctly.
Performance and Productivity
- Achieve daily and weekly production targets.
- Perform and document First Article Inspection as required.
- Maintain 5S discipline and conduct routine machine and tooling maintenance.
Team Support
- Train, guide, and share best practices with newly joined machinists.
- Support the Cell Leader with daily work allocation when delegated or during absences.
- Perform other reasonable tasks assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Technical Skills
- CNC machine setup and operation.
- CNC program interpretation and tool offset management.
- Premium threading technologies including VAM TOP, VAM TOP HC, VAM TOP HT, NEW VAM, VAM 21, and VAM FJL.
- API, BTC, and EUE threading technologies.
- Precision measurement instruments.
- Material handling, including chrome materials.
Behavioural Skills
- Attention to detail, autonomy, discipline, and consistency.
- Problem-solving ability and ownership of safety and quality.
- Willingness to train and support others.
Education, Language, and Experience
- Technical certificate or diploma in mechanical engineering, precision engineering, tool and die, or an equivalent field.
- At least five years of hands-on experience in CNC machining and metal removal operations across various machine types.
- Meet internal qualification standards for Machinist CNC 1 and CNC 2.
