About the Opportunity
The Cloud Support Intern supports cloud operations while gaining hands-on experience with leading cloud platforms, tools, and technologies in a remote work environment. Designed for high school students interested in exploring careers in technology, this internship provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced cloud engineers and IT professionals on real-world projects involving cloud implementation, maintenance, security, troubleshooting, automation, and optimization. This position operates in a telework environment with on-site work required as needed.
Success in this role looks like demonstrating curiosity, taking initiative, applying feedback, and contributing to cloud-related projects while developing technical and professional skills. A successful intern will collaborate effectively with the team, complete assigned tasks with attention to detail, and build a strong foundation for continued education and future career opportunities in the technology industry.
What You Will Do in This Role
- The Cloud Support Intern supports cloud operations by assisting with resource deployment, system monitoring, automation, troubleshooting, security, documentation, maintenance, application development, and research across major cloud platforms.
- Responsibilities include:
- Assist in the deployment, configuration, and management of cloud resources (e.g., virtual machines, storage, networks) on major cloud platforms
- Monitor cloud systems for performance, security, and cost efficiency
- Participate in basic scripting and automation tasks to streamline cloud operations
- Participate in troubleshooting, resolving cloud-related technical issues, and participate in root cause analysis
- Learn and apply cloud security best practices, assisting in implementing security measures and ensuring compliance
- Contribute to documentation of cloud environments, processes, and best practices
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives
- Assist with data backup and recovery activities, and contribute to defining patch management and lifecycle processes for cloud systems
- Collaborate with developers and DevOps teams on cloud-native application development
- Research new cloud services, trends, and tools to support team decision-making
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required qualifications
- Interested in pursuing a career in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
- Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts and principles (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
- Familiarity with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) through coursework or personal projects
- Basic experience in programming or scripting (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, Bash)
- A general understanding of Linux/Windows operating systems fundamentals
- Familiarity with basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Clear communication, both in writing and when speaking
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred qualifications
- Basic understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Interest in cloud security and compliance
- Experience with agile methodologies
- Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals)
Work Environment
This work is normally completed in a remote environment.
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's and client facilities.
