Assisted Living Alberta’s Provincial Social Work Program, part of the Client Navigation & Integration portfolio, supports individuals across the continuum of care in their homes, communities, and during acute care or emergency department visits. As Alberta’s provincial assisted living agency, ALA delivers integrated health, continuing care, home care, community care, and social services to help Albertans live well where they call home. We are seeking an Operations Manager, Social Work, to lead a team of Social Workers at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) in Edmonton. Social workers play a vital role in supporting safe care transitions, providing support through crisis, addressing social determinants of health, and connecting patients and families with community resources and services. Reporting within a dynamic healthcare environment, the Manager is responsible for the delivery of social work services, providing leadership and mentorship to frontline staff, overseeing resource allocation, and leading change initiatives. The successful candidate will build and sustain strong partnerships across health, home care, community organizations, and government ministries to support seamless, patient-centered care.
Description:
Operational Leadership: Oversee daily social work operations, manage workload demands, staffing resources, and budget impacts. Service Delivery: Ensure high-quality, patient- and family-centered care. Support staff in managing complex cases, care transitions, discharge planning, risk management, and community service coordination. Partnerships & Collaboration: Build and maintain effective relationships with healthcare teams, community agencies, and external partners to support integrated service delivery. Use strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to address complex issues. People Leadership: Provide coaching, mentorship, performance management, and professional development opportunities to support staff growth and engagement. Workforce Management: Lead recruitment, onboarding, orientation, attendance management, and succession planning to maintain a skilled and effective team. Quality & Continuous Improvement: Monitor service effectiveness, identify operational challenges, and provide recommendations to support program, zone, and organizational priorities.

Bachelor’s degree in health or allied health-related field required. A minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice or health related experience.
Annual membership in good standing with an accredited professional association is required and must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.
Master’s degree and previous management experience in a health-related field is preferred. Computer literacy in Microsoft Outlook, Word, ESP, e-People and electronic Meditech/connect care documentation is an asset.
