Education & Experience
Masters of Clinical Counseling or Counselling Psychology from an accredited academic institution (to include a supervised clinical learning rotation), plus a minimum of four (4) years' recent, related clinical counselling experience, and completion of a professional instructional program for teaching.
Experience creating educational materials, implementing education strategies, utilizing knowledge translation abilities, and experience supervising students, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Eligible for registration with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and/or the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
Valid BC Driver's License as local area travel within the VCH geographic area may occur, and access to a vehicle may be required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of organization policies, legislation, procedures, and standards of care.
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical counselling theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.
- Broad knowledge of the established provincial standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.
- Broad knowledge of education theory.
- Broad knowledge of tele-health and technology based learning.
- Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
- General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
- Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
- Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and construct effective and dynamic education modules.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, facilitate and teach.
- Demonstrated ability in education strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment.
- Demonstrated ability to promote a culture of enquiry and evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and deal effectively with, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, patients and their circle of care, and outside agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Computer literacy related to tele-health and technology-based learning, and with spreadsheet and database skills.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
- The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
