Responsibilities

  • Assist Master in emergency situations.
  • Assist Master in implementing Company policies and Safety Management System.
  • Acts as Senior DP Operator.
  • Watch keeper when on conventional watches.
  • Ensures all work undertaken under his direction complies with SBMS requirements and necessary actions are completed e.g. Permit to Work is actioned.
  • Maintains stability and trim of vessel to ensure statutory criteria compliance.
  • Acts as Environmental Control Officer for the control and disposal of waste onboard the vessel.
  • Acts as Ballast Water Management Officer.
  • Maintain adequate fresh water on sailing and liaises with ER whilst at sea.
  • Oversees maintenance of all lifesaving, fire fighting appliances and watertight integrity as required by statute.
  • Maintain all deck machinery, including certification, ancillary equipment and updating planned maintenance.
  • Maintain stock levels of deck stores.
  • Maintain all vessel lifting equipment and keeps an updated register of all gear.
  • Ensure all deck cargo is secure at all times and organises cargo transfer operations.
  • Departmental head for Deck Officers & Crew.
  • In Port organises watch keeping arrangements and provision of safe means of access.
  • Assessment of Deck Crew and Bridge Officers.
  • Acts as a member of the emergency team as dictated in the Muster List.
  • Permit to work coordinator onboard.
  • Any other duties as requested by the Master to support safe operations.

Hsse Responsibilities

  • To stop any person from performing an unsafe act.
  • Reinforce and strengthen the HSE culture at every opportunity in operations and projects.
  • Promote correct HSE behaviours through personal example. Take action upon any health, safety and environmental matter brought to their notice, and report to their Manager on any matter which they are unable to rectify.
  • Ensure personnel are adequately trained, competent and authorized for the operations which they are required to perform and kept informed of all relevant information to ensure their health and safety. Carry out appropriate induction training.
  • Maintain awareness Sub-Contractor activities, interfaces and the associated risks.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for employees under their control. Assist in all safety inspections to ensure that the workplace is maintained in a safe and tidy condition. Ensure as far as is reasonably practicable that the workplace is kept free of potential hazards.
  • Ensure that risk assessments are carried out. Evaluate processes and activities for the presence of hazards. Assess record and control the subsequent risk to a tolerable level.
  • Conform with the emergency procedures applicable to their place of work. Ensure that the workforce is aware of, and understands, the emergency procedures.
  • Facilitate effective two-way communication with the workforce on HSE issues. Conduct Toolbox Talks and Pre Job Safety Meetings. Attend HSE Meetings and encourage collaboration between teams.
  • Remain aware of the relevant HSE legislation relevant to their operations.
  • Ensure all safety devices provided are utilized and maintained, protective personal equipment (PPE) is worn, safety rules are observed and safe working practices applied. Ensure correct equipment usage, inspection and effective maintenance.
  • Report and investigate all accidents and dangerous occurrences, including environmental incidents in the area of responsibility.

Certification

  • CoC as per STCW Regulation II/2.
  • Flag state certificate of equivalent competency.
  • STCW Certification.
  • DP Certified (unlimited).
  • Valid Medical Certificate.
  • Seamans book.
  • Training & certification in accordance with the Telford Offshore Training Matrix.
