Role Overview

The South Campus is undergoing a STEM-focused academic and pedagogical transformation with new science laboratories and learning infrastructure.

The role delivers rigorous Upper Grades Chemistry instruction and strengthens practical, laboratory-based science education.

The position reports to the Head of Secondary and collaborates with the STEM Director and Academic Director.

The expected start date is August 2026.

Teaching and Academic Responsibilities

  • Deliver IGCSE and A-Level Chemistry instruction aligned with the UK Curriculum and examination board requirements.
  • Embed hands-on experimentation and laboratory learning throughout the curriculum.
  • Design lessons that develop inquiry, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and experimental skills.
  • Prepare students for practical external examination components.
  • Monitor attainment, identify learning gaps, and implement targeted interventions.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and academic progress.

Laboratory Safety and Compliance

  • Follow recognized international laboratory health and safety standards and school policies.
  • Manage procedures for handling, storing, using, and disposing of chemicals and laboratory materials.
  • Conduct risk assessments before practical activities and promote a strong safety culture.

Curriculum and Collaboration

  • Coordinate with the Academic Director on curriculum alignment, academic standards, assessment, and attainment.
  • Coordinate with the STEM Director on laboratory schedules, equipment, practical requirements, and resources.
  • Participate in departmental planning, curriculum development, moderation, and academic review.
  • Contribute to STEM initiatives, enrichment activities, science competitions, and interdisciplinary learning.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field is required.
  • A valid and recognized teaching qualification or credential is required.
  • Current laboratory safety certification, such as CLEAPSS or an equivalent, is required.
  • At least 3 years of relevant Upper Grades or Secondary Chemistry teaching experience is required.
  • Experience with the UK Curriculum, IGCSE and/or A-Level Chemistry, and laboratory-based instruction is required.
  • Experience supporting attainment, using assessment data, managing classrooms, and engaging students is required.
  • Previous experience in specified rigorous UK Curriculum schools is preferred.
