Role Overview
Chemical Engineer Trainee role focused on materials development and applied research at a manufacturing facility.
The primary focus is materials science, including interactions between materials, composite development, and new material functions.
The position combines hands-on experimentation with scientific reasoning across molecular chemistry, material structure, and macroscopic properties.
What You Will Do
- Develop and test composite material formulations.
- Study how composition, structure, interfaces, processing, and properties relate to one another.
- Experiment with wood, lignin, cellulose, agricultural residues, polymers, resins, fillers, and industrial waste streams.
- Investigate surface and interface modification methods for specific functions.
- Design and conduct small-scale experiments and translate useful results toward manufacturing.
- Characterize materials using available physical and chemical testing methods.
- Maintain experimental records and analyze results.
- Research useful materials and technologies in scientific literature, patents, and industrial sources.
- Work with production personnel to connect laboratory observations with industrial processing.
