The Role
The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving strategic growth initiatives, developing new customer relationships, and expanding Total Power's market presence. This role focuses on identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities while supporting Territory Managers in expanding customer relationships, increasing market penetration, and pursuing strategic projects.
This is a four-day-per-week position and an individual contributor role with no direct reports. Success will be achieved through relationship building, strategic planning, collaboration with Territory Managers and internal stakeholders, and the ability to create opportunities that contribute to long-term business growth.
During the first 36 months, the primary focus of this position will be the Ottawa market. The successful candidate will work closely with the local Territory Manager(s) and leadership team to strengthen Total Power's presence in the region, identify key opportunities, develop strategic relationships, and support the pursuit of major projects. Following this initial phase, the role will broaden to support business development initiatives in other strategic markets as business priorities require.
Ottawa Market Development (First 36 Months)
Develop and execute a focused business development strategy for the Ottawa market.
Support local Territory Managers by identifying and developing new business opportunities and strategic customer relationships.
Build relationships with key end users, consultants, engineers, contractors, developers, municipalities, government agencies, and strategic partners.
Assist in the identification and pursuit of major projects and high-value opportunities.
Conduct market analysis and competitive assessments to identify growth opportunities.
Work collaboratively with Territory Managers, service teams, operations, and leadership to align customer needs with company capabilities.
Business Development Responsibilities
- Support Territory Managers in identifying, qualifying, and pursuing strategic business opportunities.
- Assist with the development of key customer relationships and strategic partnerships.
- Generate new business opportunities that complement and strengthen existing territory sales efforts.
- Participate in customer meetings, presentations, site visits, and strategic account planning activities.
- Work with Territory Managers to develop account penetration strategies and identify opportunities for growth within existing customer bases.
- Provide market intelligence, competitive insights, and industry trend analysis to support sales and business planning.
- Represent Total Power at industry events, trade shows, conferences, and networking functions.
- Support major proposals, pursuits, and negotiations where additional business development resources can help secure new business.
- Maintain accurate opportunity tracking, forecasting, and reporting through company CRM systems.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a consistent and positive customer experience throughout the sales cycle.
What You Need
Minimum five (5) years of business development, strategic sales, account management, or related experience.
Demonstrated success in developing new business opportunities and supporting revenue growth initiatives.
Strong relationship-building and networking skills with the ability to engage decision-makers at all organizational levels.
Experience working collaboratively within a sales organization and supporting field sales teams.
Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and consultative selling abilities.
Strong understanding of project-based and solution-oriented sales environments.
Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with Territory Managers and cross-functional teams.
Experience within power generation, electrical distribution, industrial equipment, construction, HVAC, engineering consulting, or related industries is preferred.
Technical knowledge of power generation systems is considered a strong asset.

Ottawa market opportunity development and customer engagement during the first 36 months.
Number and value of qualified opportunities generated and supported.
Strategic account development and relationship growth.
Development of key customer relationships and strategic partnerships.
Support provided to Territory Managers in securing new business opportunities.
Revenue and gross margin contribution from identified opportunities.
CRM activity, pipeline development, and forecasting accuracy.
Working Conditions
Four-day-per-week schedule with flexibility to accommodate customer meetings, travel requirements, and business priorities.
Significant time spent in the Ottawa market during the initial 36 month market development phase.
Travel may be required to support Territory Managers, strategic customers, and business development initiatives.
In the event of a power outage or declared State of Emergency by any level of government, must be available to support business operations as required.
Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
