Role Overview
The Bunker Trader is a front-line commercial trading role responsible for driving profitability and expanding Sunoco LP’s bunker business. This position owns the full trade lifecycle, from customer engagement through execution, while contributing to commercial strategy and supporting growth initiatives across the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as a primary commercial interface for spot and contract bunker trading activity
Own P&L generation through margin optimization, pricing strategy, and deal execution
Execute bunker transactions end-to-end: inquiry, quotation, confirmation, nomination, delivery coordination.
Manage daily market pricing, quoting, and commercial negotiations with customers
Maintain strong counterparty relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
Analyze market trends, port conditions, and pricing dynamics to inform trading decisions
Monitor and manage trade exposures including credit limits, prepayments, and margin risk
Partner closely with Commercial, Operations, Credit, and Finance teams to ensure seamless transaction execution and issue resolution
Deliver revenue and margin growth aligned with commercial strategy
Expand customer wallet share and improve retention across assigned account
Support new market opportunities

Required Skills, Education and/or Experience
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, Maritime or related discipline
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in bunker trading or marine fuels commercial sector
- Strong understanding of marine fuel markets, supply chains, and pricing structures
- Experience working with market index pricing and floating-to-fixed price mechanisms
- Familiarity with marine fuel specifications
- Working knowledge of port operations and logistical constraints
- Advanced Excel and analytical capabilities
- Experience using maritime intelligence tools such as MarineTraffic and SeaSearcher
- Commercially driven with strong sense of urgency
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, real-time trading environment
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
- Highly analytical with attention to detail
- Proactive and entrepreneurial approach to opportunity identification and execution
Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Usually, normal office working conditions.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
Ability to travel 50 - 75% of the time with overnight stays required.
Complete all travel and expense related reports.
Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends
