Position Overview
The Building Operator works in the Facilities Management department at Toronto General Hospital.
The position reports to the Supervisor, Facilities and has one replacement vacancy.
Compensation
- The wage range is $35.57 to $36.19 per hour, with a non-negotiable start rate.
Schedule and Status
- This is a permanent full-time position with 37.5 hours per week.
- Shifts rotate between evenings from 15:00 to 23:00 and nights from 23:00 to 07:00, including rotating weekends.
- Shifts and hours may change under the applicable collective agreement.
Duties
- Plan and undertake mechanical operations, maintenance, communications, and energy management.
- Operate plant equipment and machinery and perform preventative maintenance to ensure continuous operation.
- Diagnose equipment and machinery problems and provide feedback on construction or modifications affecting existing systems.
- Inspect facilities and mechanical rooms and repair equipment and machinery.
- Contribute to departmental efficiency and perform assigned cross-functional or classification-related duties.
Qualifications
- Completion of high school or a recognized equivalent is required.
- A building operations certificate or diploma, 3rd or 4th Class Stationary Engineer Certificate, or recognized licensed trade certification is required as an alternative qualification.
- Licensed trade candidates must possess the applicable provincial Certificate of Qualifications.
- At least two years of hands-on facilities operation and equipment or machinery maintenance experience is required.
- Computer literacy, blueprint interpretation, effective communication, organization, and independent judgment are required.
- Knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System is an asset.
- Candidates must be able to lift 11 to 20 kilograms and meet the physical demands of the position.
