Biologist II

FLSA: [Non-exempt/Exempt]

Hours Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday - However, must be flexible to meet business needs and overtime.

The Biologist II will be responsible for planning and conducting wet lab and in vivo studies supporting early discovery efforts and established pipeline projects within the cardiometabolic research areas.

Rigorous documentation and lab notebook maintenance are essential to this role.

Additional responsibilities include buffer preparation and general laboratory upkeep.

• Plan and run manual plate-based ELISA immunoassays and perform data analysis
• Perform cell cultures and various cell based and biochemical in vitro assays
• Daily support in maintaining cell lines including immortalized and primary cells for assays
• Isolate genomic material (DNA, RNA) to perform RT-QPCR
• Isolate protein to perform Western Blotting and Immunoprecipitation (IP)
• Prepare animals for necropsy and assist with necropsy
• Use of liquid handler automation including Tecan and Hamilton instrumentation
• General small animal (mouse) handling and dosing (p.o. s.c., and i.p.)
• Conduct metabolic profiling assays in rodent models, including insulin and glucose tolerance tests
• Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment including centrifuges, pipettes, spectrophotometers, ELISA readers, as well as specialized equipment necessary to support the laboratory
• Record data in Electronic Lab Notebooks
• Knowledge of analyzing data with familiarity to Excel and other analytical techniques
• Open to future opportunities to perform in vivo testing
• Comply with clients and company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies
• Follow guidelines set forth by clients and in the company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures

• Professional, clear and concise communication required in written and verbal formats
• Proven Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint skills
• Ability to learn quickly and understand job specific software
• Ability to understand basic scientific terminology and communicate it to others
• Experience working with small animals and dosing
• Team oriented and ability to work in a collaborative environment
• Proven multi-tasker that thrives on juggling multiple projects in a deadline driven environment

• Proven consistent pipetting skills and aseptic technique
• Knowledge of scientific research principles, practices and protocols

• Degree requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Biology or closely related field
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the laboratory performing experiments and evaluating data

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.

Range: $26.00-$28.00 per hour (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as location, education, experience, and skillset).
