Base Supervisor at Transportation Department 875 — Indiana, USA | Base Career

Oversees the daily base operations related to the provision of transportation services for students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

Perform all job duty related activity with a sense of urgency to provide timely service of high quality to students, parents and other customers.

Coordinates to ensure assignments, payroll, scheduled special services trips, vehicle maintenance, refueling, employees' development, base upkeep and daily functions and tasks of the base are performed.

Coordinates with all appropriate departments to ensure all students eligible for transportation services are identified and serviced appropriately.

Responsible for scheduling and/or attending parent/student/school meetings involving the Transportation Division.

Ensures drivers perform pre-trip inspections and appropriate individuals are advised of problems found.

Responsible for counseling and disciplinary actions up to and including suspensions after consulting with the Operations Manager, Director of Operations and Communications and/or the Human Resources Division.

Recommends further corrective action to the Operations Manager, Director of Operations and Communication, and/or Human Resources Division.

Maintains department employee files.

Conducts step-one hearings for employee grievances.

Responsible for monthly base meetings with all assigned employees.

Holds staff meetings as needed.

Coordinates school visits on a scheduled basis for the purpose of facilitating two-way communication with principals and to ensure the appropriate services is provided.

Responsible for complying with rules, regulations and directions of the State of Indiana, Indiana State Police, Indiana School Bus Safety Commission, the Board of School Commissioners, and the Transportation Employee's Handbook concerning pupil transportation, procedures, and policies.

Recommends selected employees for promotion from on-call status to regular employees' status.

Responsible for complying with rules, regulations and policies which apply to persons with disabilities, including the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other applicable federal, state, and local statutes.

Other duties may be assigned.

Assigns work to and supervises a large group of employees assigned to the base.

Evaluates employees directly assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be flexible, adaptable and able to work with a sense of urgency in an environment of frequent changes in requirements, practices, procedures, non-standard (eight to five) work day schedule and be able and willing to work extended days, weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and holidays if required. The individual must also be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory and infuse the philosophy that the students' needs come first into everything they do. The individual should be knowledgeable with Microsoft Works, Excel, PowerPoint, and e-mail. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and five years related experience and/or training.

College degree is helpful.

Must have three to five years of responsible experience in the design and administration of transportation routing systems and/or the management of transportation staff.

Three to five years' supervisory experience in transportation or a related field is helpful.

Ability to read, write, and comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English.

Ability to effectively organize and present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to work well with others in a team concept setting.

Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements and state certifications is required.
