Role overview

HSBC is seeking an experienced Associate Director, Software Engineering for its Avaloq engineering team.

The role leads engineering delivery and capability building for Avaloq banking platforms supporting private banking domains.

The position requires 15+ years of total experience and 8–10 years customizing and implementing Avaloq.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Avaloq delivery across design, development, testing, and deployment while maintaining code quality and documentation.
  • Coordinate projects, minor enhancements, and run-the-bank backlog delivery using Agile and DevOps methods.
  • Provide leadership to global engineering teams and build a robust Avaloq workforce capability.
  • Drive automation with the Test Manager and support recruitment, retention, talent management, and administration.
  • Identify control deficiencies and ensure risk, governance, compliance, and mandatory training requirements are met.
  • Partner with engineering leadership on location strategy and Avaloq workforce capability planning.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Avaloq, Agile, DevOps, and team management.
  • Understand private banking functions, including finance, trade, client reporting, cash management, and risk.
  • Be technically hands-on with Avaloq, interfaces, end-of-day processing, and deployment automation.
  • Contribute to architecture and system design for satellite system interfaces.
  • Have a system engineering background and compare technical solutions against business requirements.
  • Communicate effectively, influence stakeholders, and guide complex technical decisions under ambiguity.
