Associate Engineer - Mechanical Building Services

Role overview

Key purpose and responsibilities

• Manage the Mechanical Services team, including recruitment, resourcing, professional development, and engagement.
• Manage project time, cost, quality, health and safety, resources, client relationships, and delivery.
• Lead enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimates, scopes of work, and change controls.
• Monitor project fee spend, invoicing, commercial objectives, and cost-value reconciliation.
• Conduct technical design reviews and peer audits of team designs.
• Recruit, develop, retain, and engage Mechanical Services team members.
• Act as an interface to project clients on key projects.
• Implement strategies set by the Discipline Director or Senior Management Team.

Accountabilities

• Create a team environment that enables continual development, feedback, and professional growth.
• Ensure team compliance with company quality management and best practice.
• Oversee calculations, design deliverables, drawings, specifications, reports, site surveys, construction-stage duties, client liaison, project management, and costing.

Essential qualifications and experience

• Chartered Member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).
• Track record delivering multidisciplinary projects to a high standard in at least one relevant sector.
• Considerable experience managing varied teams from apprentices and graduates to principal level.
• Extensive involvement in bids, proposals, and tender specifications.
• Excellent communication, presentation, stakeholder relationship, design, technical detailing, and specification-writing skills.
• Expert design experience in Mechanical Building Services systems, including HVAC and Public Health.
• Experience using Navisworks and NBS Create or Chorus.

Desirable qualifications and experience

• Experience delivering multidisciplinary projects across several sectors.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams delivering complex projects.
• Ability to develop, deploy, and implement strategic vision.
• Contribution to work-winning activities, bids, tenders, client relationships, or business development.
• Experience using IES Thermal Modelling, AutoCAD, or Revit.
