Role overview

Lead and grow a civil and structural engineering team within a multidisciplinary consultancy.

The role combines technical leadership, project delivery, client relationship management, and business development.

Projects include new-build, refurbishment, remedial, and existing building work.

Technical and project leadership

  • Lead delivery of civil and structural engineering projects.
  • Oversee structural assessments, defect diagnosis, remedial engineering, and design commissions.
  • Review and approve reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Maintain technical quality, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on programme and within budget.

Team management

  • Lead, manage, and develop engineers and technicians.
  • Oversee resource planning, workload allocation, and project resourcing.
  • Mentor staff and support professional development and chartership progression.

Client and commercial duties

  • Manage key client relationships and secure repeat business and new commissions.
  • Prepare fee proposals, scopes of service, and tender submissions.
  • Monitor project performance, fees, profitability, risks, and financial forecasting.
  • Contribute to strategic development of the civil and structural engineering team.

Required qualifications and experience

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer through MIStructE or MICE.
  • Consulting engineering experience at Senior or Associate level.
  • Experience delivering civil and structural design projects for new and existing buildings.
  • Knowledge of structural assessment, defect diagnosis, remedial engineering, and UK design standards.
  • Experience leading teams, managing projects, and handling client and commercial responsibilities.

Desirable experience

  • Forensic engineering and structural failure investigations.
  • Work for insurers, solicitors, lenders, asset managers, or loss adjusters.
  • Historic buildings, traditional construction, insurance assessments, subsidence investigations, or technical due diligence.
