We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Project Manager to join our Programme & Project Management (PPM) business in the North-West of England. Our PPM function works with clients across numerous sectors, providing talented teams of Programme and Project Managers who support projects throughout the whole project or programme lifecycle. We are experiencing significant demand for client-side programme management and delivery partner roles across the UK and internationally, particularly in the water, energy and transport infrastructure markets. We work hand in hand with Arup’s entire range of technical experts to add value at every stage of a project, asset, or investment lifecycle.
We are now seeking to strengthen our leadership team and work winning capability in the North-West of England, and this role will involve further developing and building Arup’s PPM capability and strengthening Arup’s strategic programme management offer. A key aspect will require the development and management of new client relationships, identifying opportunities and bidding for and winning new work to support the ongoing growth of the business.
Once in role, the new PPM Associate will be focused on new and existing client programme strategic leadership opportunities. You will be helping our clients with programme formation of the initial stages of the process, helping them solve business and operational challenges, make informed commercial decisions and implement better, more sustainable solutions.

This role will suit someone with experience of a range of business development activities including developing client relationships and preparation of bids and supporting the development of new service offerings. You will need to be able to able to demonstrate a track record of contributing to winning work and also have the skills to successfully deliver major infrastructure projects, programmes or frameworks, and be confident leading multidisciplinary teams and working closely with clients and stakeholders. You will combine strong delivery discipline with commercial awareness, clear communication and a collaborative approach. As a senior member of our team, you will also coach and support the development of junior colleagues.
If you have a background of successful delivery of complex and challenging projects from a professional project management (client facing) perspective i.e. delivering to time, cost, quality, and sustainable outcomes, we’d like to hear from you!
Degree in engineering, architecture or project/construction management (or similar) and professional accreditation/certification such as APM (or similar) in the PPM environment.
Well established capability and track record in developing new client relationships, identifying opportunities and winning new project work.
Customer focused with client relationship management skills, including the ability to understand client requirements and bring together different Arup capabilities to develop a solution.
Understands and has experience in deploying various forms of construction contract, in particular NEC3 or 4 and/or bespoke forms of contract.
Experience in procurement of design and construction contracts on behalf of external clients is an advantage.
