Role overview

Mott MacDonald is recruiting an Assistant Environmental Hydrologist or Water Quality Modeller for its Water Consultancy Division.

The role supports UK and international clients on water quality, catchment investigations, modelling, and environmental engineering projects.

The position offers opportunities to work across hydrological, hydrodynamic, coastal, flood, systems, and computational fluid dynamics modelling.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyse large datasets to identify relationships and inform water quality assessments.
  • Support complex modelling projects with experts across multiple disciplines.
  • Apply numerical skills and attention to detail to environmental engineering projects.
  • Work with project teams to provide accurate and timely client outputs.
  • Present project outcomes internally and externally.
  • Develop catchment, drainage, river network, and statistical models to investigate contaminant processes.
  • Support studies addressing storm overflows, water transfers, discharge compliance, and nature-based solutions.

Essential requirements

  • Relevant degree-level qualification in environmental sciences, geography, mathematics, physics, civil engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in data analysis and statistical techniques.
  • Knowledge of hydrology, hydrodynamics, sediments, and water quality modelling processes.
  • Some understanding of water industry regulation relating to water quality.
  • Willingness to innovate.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.

Desirable experience

  • Experience with industry-standard software such as SAGIS-SIMCAT, InfoWorks ICM, or MIKE11.
  • Experience with coding or statistical techniques is advantageous.
  • Experience collecting hydrometric and water quality data in the field is desirable.
