BAHL Chartering L.L.C is seeking a commercially minded and proactive Assistant Chartering Manager – Dry Bulk in Dubai.
The role supports the chartering process from initial inquiry through fixture completion and post-fixture follow-up.
The position works with international shipowners, operators, charterers, brokers, traders, and cargo interests.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor dry bulk freight markets, vessel positions, cargo requirements, and market developments.
- Source and evaluate cargo and vessel opportunities.
- Review vessel specifications, DWT, trading areas, laycan, ports, and operational requirements.
- Evaluate freight ideas, voyage economics, and commercial offers.
- Assist with freight negotiations and support voyage charter, time charter, and spot fixture negotiations.
- Prepare Charter Party summaries, recaps, and commercial terms.
- Coordinate with owners, charterers, Masters, agents, operations, and documentation teams.
- Track fixture status, vessel schedules, cargo readiness, port developments, and voyage performance.
- Maintain records of cargoes, open tonnage, vessels, fixtures, and market information.
- Prepare market updates, commercial reports, and internal analyses.
- Develop professional relationships and identify new business opportunities.
What We Are Looking For
- Strong interest in ship chartering and dry bulk shipping.
- Good understanding of shipping terminology, basic chartering concepts, vessel operations, and freight market fundamentals.
- Ability to analyze cargo and vessel requirements.
- Strong numerical, analytical, problem-solving, and commercial skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Ability to communicate confidently with international counterparties and clients.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under time pressure.
- High integrity, confidentiality, professionalism, accountability, and willingness to learn.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, Economics, International Trade, Logistics, or a related field.
- Previous experience in ship chartering, dry bulk shipping, marine brokerage, commodity trading, shipping operations, or logistics is advantageous.
- Familiarity with voyage charter, time charter, spot fixtures, Charter Party terms, and freight markets is preferred.
- Experience using shipping market platforms, vessel databases, or commercial analysis tools is advantageous.
- Candidates with a strong maritime or operational background seeking to develop in commercial chartering are encouraged to apply.
