At Oxford Instruments, we enable the world's leading scientists, engineers and manufacturers to solve some of their most challenging problems. We are looking for an experienced Application Specialist with expertise in Nanoindentation and Metallurgy to join our EMEAI team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of advanced materials characterisation, supporting customers across academia, research institutions and industry while helping drive the adoption of innovative technologies throughout the region.

What You'll Be Doing

As the technical expert for nanoindentation and metallurgy applications across EMEAI, you will:

Deliver high-quality demonstrations, application studies and technical evaluations across the Oxford Instruments portfolio

Support sales teams by providing expert application knowledge and customer-facing technical guidance

Produce clear, commercially focused application reports and technical documentation

Create engaging content including application notes, blogs and marketing materials

Organise and deliver workshops, webinars, hands-on training sessions and customer education programmes

Build strong relationships with customers, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), distributors and research partners

Conduct customer visits and joint meetings alongside sales and service colleagues

Gather market intelligence and provide feedback on customer needs, competitive activity and product enhancements

Support new product development through Voice of Customer activities, prototype testing and usability assessments

Collaborate closely with global applications, sales, service and marketing teams

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Geoscience or a related discipline
  • Strong practical knowledge of metallurgy and associated testing methodologies
  • Hands-on experience operating nanoindentation systems, with a thorough understanding of the underlying theory and principles
  • Experience with Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) and electron microscopy techniques
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluent English and German language skills
  • Comfortable working across international teams and customer environments
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally on a regular basis

Desirable

MSc or PhD in Metallurgy or a related field

Experience with additional diffraction-based characterisation techniques
